360º Appraisal Lawyer

There is an increasing expectation on lawyers to demonstrate good leadership ability as well as effective management skills and strategic vision. Law firms need to identify the values and behaviours that help them to grow and be profitable in a changing market place. Using 360° Appraisal is the best ways for a law firm to measure these skills in their team. When you use 360° Appraisal it rates the performance of your people by those who know something about them and their work. And each individual member of staff completes their own self-assessment which is compared against feedback from their colleagues.

360° feedback has been used by learning and development professionals for many years to help individuals and organisations improve their performance, effectiveness and profitability. It is a powerful tool that helps you become more effective by understanding how others see you, your performance, your behaviour and your attitudes.

Structured Feedback

Lawyer360 works by gathering the opinions of a number of people.  A series of carefully structured questions prompt you to assess your skills in a number of key areas.  A number of other people - typically around six - are then asked to give their perception of you by answering the same set of questions. All of the responses provided are then compiled into a feedback report.  The respondents cannot be identified in the report and because we are an outside third party, we offer the opportunity for people to give confidential feedback in a safe environment.

Identify Development Areas

The web-based software generates your personal feedback reports automatically, highlighting differences between self perception and how others see you.  Critical areas for self-development are often highlighted. Each staff member will receive an action planner to work through in their own time - either by themselves or with a mentor.  The pressure of face to face feedback is removed.  You choose who, if anyone sees the results.

Who It's Designed For

Lawyer360 is designed specifically for lawyers and law firms. The competency areas cover interpersonal and professional behaviours and will map to the updated SRA code of Conduct (due October 2011). The 360 questionnaires have been created and tested by both lawyers and development specialists working with law firms.

Key Benefits

Using 360° feedback as part of your staff appraisal and development process you can bring some serious benefits to both your law firm and your people;

  • People gain much better self awareness by learning how their colleagues perceive them and they take things less personally and are more likely to take on board what's been said.
  • It helps people understand how their behaviour influences both their own personal effectiveness and how they impact the smooth running of the organisation.
  • It improves communication within the organisation and encourages a more open culture where giving and receiving constructive feedback is the norm.

It is a very powerful driver for change both for individuals and organisations as a whole.
